Faith Bible Camp COVID-19 response and plan
The camp board has been closely watching the Illinois guidelines for reopening. We have also been listening to the communities that continually support Faith Bible Camp. We specifically asked whether parents would send their kids to camp despite the coronavirus. A lot of people offered their thoughts and we considered all the responses.
The overwhelming response was that parents want to send their kids to camp while following the appropriate safety guidelines. In Illinois we have to follow the 5 Phase reopening plan, which limits group gatherings to less than 50 people. Unfortunately, we can not host our normal fall camps with groups of less than 50 people. To achieve the requisite group size would have to use all of our cabins, with each one staffed. That would limit us to less than 25 campers per week.
To protect the safety of all of our campers and staff, we have made the most obvious choice for us; WE WILL NOT HAVE OVERNIGHT WEEKENDS OF CAMP THIS FALL OF 2020. A weekend long camp that meets the reopening guidelines would be unrecognizable to our campers.
WE HAVE DEVELOPED ALTERNATIVE PLANS for each age group to have a ONE DAY CAMP EXPERIENCE. During the month of October, we will offer one day camp for Junior High and Senior High age groups. The cost for camp this fall is $30. We will provide a sack lunch and supper as well as activities throughout the day. Safety is one of the top concerns this fall and we are committed to maintaining social distancing and meeting the guidelines for safely reopening.
The day will begin at 9:00 a.m. and go until 7:00 p.m. Our activities will depend on what events we can safely organize. We hope to include games, activities, outdoor chapel, and a campfire. We will take temperatures at check-in and throughout the day and have a nurse here on duty. We will have specific policies in place to satisfy local guidelines, so camp will likely be a little different than what most of our campers are used to, but we are doing all we can to make camp this fall the best it can be.
If you are planning to send a camper or attend camp yourself, take some time to read through the COVID-19 Camp Policies on this website. The policies on that page are not an exhaustive list, but they should help illustrate how camp will be different this fall. On this website, parents can also register for camp and find all the required forms to fill out before they arrive.
